What is Buoycast?

Buoycast is the fastest way to check what the buoys are doing right now, and get notified when they change. It puts real-time observations from 1,000+ NOAA NDBC buoys, marine forecasts, tides, weather maps, and marine warnings on your iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, organized around your location and your favorite spots. Open the app and your closest buoy is right there. Everything else is one more tap away.

Designed and developed by a sailor, Buoycast has helped boaters, anglers, sailors, and paddlers get on the water safely since 2017.

The Rebound Update

The Rebound update is a full rebuild focused on simplicity. Buoycast now opens straight to your closest buoy, with live wind, waves, temperature, and pressure. Forecasts, tides, maps, and marine warnings are one more tap away. New in this release: AI condition summaries, custom threshold notifications, a redesigned buoy-first home screen, and a rebuilt Apple Watch app with complications.

Buoycast Pro

Buoycast Pro unlocks the full picture:

  • AI condition summaries. An on-device language model reads the latest observations and the forecast and writes a plain-language briefing of what to expect on the water. On iPhone 15 Pro and newer it runs entirely on your device, so nothing leaves your phone, and every summary links back to its sources. Older devices fall back to a rule-based summary.
  • Custom threshold notifications. Get notified when wind, waves, gusts, temperature, or pressure at any buoy cross the limits you set, with AND/OR logic for combined conditions.
  • NOAA watches, warnings, and advisories delivered as push notifications the moment they are issued.
  • Interactive weather maps with animated radar, precipitation, wind, temperature, clouds, and pressure.
  • Forecast-vs-observation charts on every data type, with 12-hour history and future tide predictions.
  • Apple Watch complications, Home and Lock Screen widgets, custom section order and visibility, and iCloud sync across your devices.
  • No ads.
